Faulkner was shot in the head and in the back. The head wound was caused by a gun fired from less than four feet away. A bullet entered his upper back and exited through the left front side of his neck.

A bullet from Faulkner's .38-cal hit Jamal just below the right nipple and cut through his right lung, diaphragm and liver, stopping next to a vertebra. He had a gash on his forehead and swelling over his left eye and on the right side of his face.
RC: Robert Chobert, United Cab taxi driver, age 23, was sitting in his parked cab one car length behind Faulkner's police cruiser on the south side of Locust.
WC: William ("Billy") Cook, Abu-Jamal's brother, was pulled over at Locust and 13th by police officer Daniel Faulkner for a traffic violation; a fight ensued.
JF: Officer James Forbes, 29, arrived at the scene of the shooting shortly after it happened.
RH: Robert Harkins Jr., 42, was driving east on Locust Street from Broad Street when he passed the scene and evidently slowed or stopped.
WH: William Harmon, 38, stopped Abu-Jamal on the north side of Locust to talk. He says that when the shooting started, Abu-Jamal broke away and crossed the street.
DH: Dessie Hightower, 22, was standing on the northwest corner of Locust and 13th.
VJ: Veronica Jones, prostitute, 20, was standing one block to the east of the crime scene, at the corner of Locust and 12th Street.
DK: Debbie Kordansky, 29, was watching television in her apartment at the St. James Hotel, which overlooks the crime scene.
AM: Albert Magilton was in the middle of the crosswalk heading north across Locust on the west side of 13th Street.
MS: Michael Mark Scanlan was waiting for a red light in his Ford Thunderbird in the eastbound left lane of Locust Street.
WS: William Singletary testified for the first time in August that he saw two men shoot Faulkner.
CW: Cynthia White, prostitute, 22, claims she was at the southeast corner of the intersection when the shooting happened. But four other witnesses didn't recall seeing her there.
