Dessie Hightower was talking to a friend, Robert Pigford, and moving towards his car when, he testified, he saw Faulkner walk to the passenger side of the Volkswagen. Attorneys for Abu-Jamal say this indicates there may have been another man besides Billy Cook in the VW.
Hightower also said in his police statement that he saw a black man "about 5' 9" or 6 feet" with dreadlocks run east on the south side of Locust. He said the person, who looked Jamaican, was wearing a black sweater, took off about 13 to 15 seconds after the shooting. The figure turned right at Camac Street.
He passed a polygraph test, a fact the defense claims prosecutors didn't disclose.
