Conversations with Eliza

In the past, it was common for people to seek out professional psychiatric help in order to resolve their mental traumas and inner conflicts. Today, however, technology allows us to dispense with human interaction completely. Computer programs such as Joseph Weizenbaum's "Eliza," which simulates a Rogerian psychotherapist, can engage in helpful, therapeutic conversation while saving the patient time and money.

The following are transcripts of four conversations between Eliza and a patient, recorded from a Macintosh personal computer in August of 1996.
