Bob Dole -- Chronology of a returned check.

June 1995: Log Cabin donated $1,000 to Bob Dole's presidential campaign.

August 1995: Questioned by a lesbian columnist for Gannett newspapers, who discovered the contribution in a campaign filing, the Dole campaign decided to give the money back. "I don't agree with their agenda," Dole said at the time.

October 1995: Dole seems to have a change of heart, saying that it was his aides who decided to give the money back. "I think if they had consulted me, they wouldn't have done that," Dole told Ohio journalists. But Nelson Warfield, the candidate's press secretary, further clouded the issue by saying, "To avoid further distraction, the campaign would still decline a similar contribution." Log Cabin has not tried again.
